Professor Emeritus of The University of Tokyo
During Japan’s period of rapid economic growth, electrical engineering greatly helped to strengthen the power system infrastructure and make life more convenient and comfortable. Yet even today, with a sophisticated electricity supply system that allows various electric appliances to be used, electrical engineering still has a crucial role to play. As the world faces a multitude of energy-related challenges such as global warming and soaring fossil fuel prices, electrical engineering is a key academic discipline for solving these challenges.

With this background, the Power Academy was founded in April 2008 to support the development of electrical engineering.

The Power Academy fosters nationwide partnerships between academia and the full spectrum of industries that rely on electrical engineering, and designs and runs various programs for both research and education.

We look forward to serving those who need our services.

Purpose of Foundation

Contributing to the development of electrical engineering

Electrical engineering-related departments in universities and higher vocational schools play an important role in assisting the electric power industry with both research and education.

Electrical engineering* is indispensable for solving global warming and other complex energy-related issues today. Electrical engineering-related departments must continue to provide a venue for core research, technological innovation, and education.

To contribute to the field of electrical engineering, the Power Academy promotes partnerships between academia and industry based on sharing the same vision, provides nationwide support for research and education in electrical engineering, and conducts publicity to make people aware of the fascination and importance of electrical engineering.

*Scope of electrical engineering
The Power Academy is involved in not only electrical engineering technologies concerning power systems, high voltage, insulation, power system equipment and applied electrical engineering, but also emerging related fields such as energy, environment, information technology, new energies, and distributed generation, thus broadening the scope of technology and research.
